According to CoinMeta, Applied Digital ( NASDAQ : APLD ) announced the signing of an agreement to obtain access to up to 1 GW of Finland’s potential power capacity. They plan to build a AI industrial park that can be expanded to a maximum of 1 GW, with the first phase of power capacity expected to be available in 2028. This is the company’s first development outside of the United States, and they have already begun promoting the project to customers and are in talks with large global hyperscaler clients. CEO Wes Cummins stated that this project is just a cautious first step in international expansion, and the company’s current strategic focus remains on executing projects within the United States. Applied Digital still operates data center hosting services for crypto mining companies, but this Finnish project is positioned as AI / HPC infrastructure, and the company’s current focus on growth and capital allocation has also shifted towards AI data centers.
