Analyst: EU requires crypto exchanges to stop providing unauthorized stablecoins within three months
2026-10-09 05:33:37
According to CoinMeta, EU regulators require all crypto exchanges to stop providing unlicensed stablecoins by January 8, 2027. Although no specific tokens are named, dollar-pegged stablecoins such as Tether and USDT are not approved under EU regulations. The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) set this deadline in a statement issued on Thursday, which applies to all crypto companies licensed under the Crypto Assets Markets Act. ESMA also stated that relying on warnings or customer confirmations is not sufficient to address the concerns identified. Additionally, Greece announced a draft on Thursday that plans to impose a 10% tax on crypto earnings exceeding 500 euros per year; this draft will be submitted to parliament in November.
