Thailand Securities and Exchange Commission Issues New Regulations for Cryptocurrency ETF Regulation

According to CoinMeta, the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission has issued 11 regulatory provisions for cryptocurrencies that will come into effect on October 16th. In the first phase, only ETF is allowed to invest in Bitcoin and Ethereum, and a passive investment strategy must be adopted. The annual average net exposure to a single crypto asset shall not be less than 80% of the fund's net assets, with the assets to be held by regulated digital asset custodian institutions. The new regulations allow mutual funds and private equity funds to invest in Thai domestic cryptocurrencies ETF, but brokers are prohibited from doing so. Moreover, in the first phase, brokers are not allowed to serve clients who are not institutional investors or ultra-high-net-worth individuals.
