The $8 billion Starlink transaction involving SpaceX affects telecom stocks: AT, VZ, and TMUS fall by 7%

According to CoinMeta, the $8 billion deal involving Starlink affected telecommunications stocks. On Thursday's after-hours trading, the stock price of AT fell by about 7.5%, Verizon fell by 7%, and T-Mobile fell by 6.7%, resulting in a loss of billions of dollars in market value. The agreement, announced by Grain Management, covers its nationwide portfolio of 800 MHz spectrum combinations. SpaceX plans to combine satellite connectivity with terrestrial wireless infrastructure, which may allow Starlink to compete directly with existing mobile operators. This acquisition enables SpaceX to obtain low-frequency spectrum of up to 14 megahertz, addressing a major limitation in satellite mobile coverage. Market reactions were mixed; although mobile operator stocks declined, infrastructure companies such as American Tower and Crown Castle saw increases of about 5% to 6% in pre-market trading. Investors believe that SpaceX could become a new customer for terrestrial communication infrastructure, creating new leasing opportunities.
