OpenAI reported annual revenue of nearly $50 billion, sparking a strong market reaction

According to CoinMeta, as reported by Benzinga, the annual revenue of OpenAI may be close to $50 billion, rather than the approximately $70 billion previously speculated by investors. Market observer Jim Cramer pointed out that this discrepancy may stem from accounting differences; the methods of reporting revenue for OpenAI and Anthropic are different, and direct comparison could mislead investors. Daniel Newman, the CEO of Futurum Group, stated that the confusion arises from investors' misunderstanding of gross income and net income. At the heart of the debate is the difference between the revenue directly recorded by OpenAI and the revenue calculated through cloud and distribution partners. Shay Boloor noted that OpenAI's agreement with Microsoft includes ongoing revenue-sharing obligations, and the revenue from TikTok does not equal the revenue retained by OpenAI. Nevertheless, this report still shocked the market. Bull Theory indicated that on Thursday, a market value of approximately $500 billion was erased, and investors re-evaluated their expectations for AI's expenses and the sustainability of its current operations.
