SEC Chairman Atkins Reiterates the Promotion of Comprehensive Cryptography Regulations
2026-10-18 17:28:10
According to CoinMeta, SEC Chairman Paul Atkins reiterated the institution's commitment to a comprehensive crypto regulatory framework, despite recent legislative challenges in Washington. He praised Patrick Wetter, the outgoing Executive Director of the White House Crypto Commission under the Trump administration, for his efforts in promoting crypto initiatives during that time. Atkins stated, "Wetter's diligent leadership played a key role in advancing President Trump's vision for a leading position for crypto in the United States." He added, "We will continue to move forward in SEC to provide the United States with a common-sense, comprehensive crypto market structure." Atkins' statement comes at a time when the Digital Assets Market Clarification Act (Clarity Act) is facing uncertainties, as the act aims to clarify regulatory jurisdiction between SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The bill failed to make it to the Senate on September 15 due to a procedural hurdle of not securing at least 60 votes.
