According to CoinMeta, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated that Tether has performed better than regulatory authorities in terms of sanctions compliance. Since 2023, Tether has on average frozen relevant addresses 4 weeks ahead of the official sanctions identified by the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control and Israel's National Counter-Terrorism Financing Bureau. In 99% of cases, the freezing was completed before the relevant addresses were marked as such by Chainalysis. This move resulted in a 94% decrease in the trading volume of stablecoins related to Iran.
