Polymarket Founder uses company funds for personal expenses, Founders Fund calls for improved financial management

CoinMeta data: According to Bloomberg, in 2025, when Founders Fund was considering investing in Polymarket, it was discovered that the founder and CEO Shayne Coplan had used company funds to pay for private jet flights, apartment rent, and personal expenses, at a time when Polymarket had not yet generated any revenue. Founders Fund subsequently requested that they improve financial management and repay the related amounts. Coplan eventually completed the repayment, and Polymarket later received an investment valued at $1.2 billion. Polymarket responded that the flights were for business purposes, and Coplan proactively disclosed the expenses to investors, stating that the repayment amount was less than the annual salary of a software engineer. The report also mentioned that ICE, the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, and Founders Fund had both suggested that Coplan hire a chief operating officer, but this has not been implemented yet. Polymarket is currently conducting a new round of financing valued at $21 billion, led by 1789 Capital with Trump's son Donald Trump Jr as a partner, and Founders Fund will also participate.
