Mitsubishi UFJ: Expect the Bank of England to raise interest rates by 25 basis points at its next meeting

According to CoinMeta, Mitsubishi UFJ Bank expects the Bank of England to raise interest rates by 25 basis points at its next meeting and to raise them again in February next year, ultimately pushing interest rates to a peak of 4.25%. As rising energy prices gradually translate into higher household bills, it is anticipated that the UK's overall inflation rate will rise above 4% in the coming months. Mitsubishi UFJ Bank states that energy prices have remained high for longer than expected, and have further increased in recent months. With the labor market stabilizing, economic growth remaining robust, and potential inflation still high, the Bank of England finds it difficult to ignore this impact. The bank forecasts that the UK's GDP growth rate in the third quarter will be approximately 0.65% on a quarter-on-quarter basis, and predicts economic growth of 1.5% and 1.4% in 2026 and 2027 respectively, which is higher than the IMF's projections. Rising borrowing costs may have compressed the fiscal space before the release of the UK budget to around £15 billion.
