CoinMeta data: The railway company disclosed that its security vulnerability is linked to blockchain investigator Taylor Monahan. Approximately $371,000 in cryptocurrency was stolen across 19 EVM compatible networks. According to the railway company's security report on October 21, the cloud deployment platform detected abnormal activity in the system that stored customer environment variables, which may have contained sensitive information such as API keys, database passwords, and private registration credentials. Unauthorized third parties may have accessed these encrypted variables and obtained their decrypted contents. Although the company stated that the investigation is still ongoing, the number of affected customers has not yet been determined. Monahan reported that attackers stole cryptocurrency from the railway's stored private keys, involving more than 500 transactions across 200 different addresses. Her research estimates the loss at around $371,000, with the activities involving at least 19 Ethereum virtual machine-compatible blockchains. Monahan identified the suspected attacker's address and noted that the first known encrypted theft transaction occurred at 19:36 on October 21. The railway company has not yet independently confirmed the reported cryptocurrency loss or determined how the attacker obtained the wallet credentials Monahan.
