Bitcoin has new advantages over gold

According to CoinMeta, analyst Jesse Eckel suggests that Bitcoin may have a significant advantage over gold, especially against the backdrop of scientists gradually achieving the artificial synthesis of gold. In a tweet on October 21st, he pointed out that technological breakthroughs could diminish the scarcity of gold, while the supply of Bitcoin remains subject to mathematical limitations. Eckel believes that laboratory-synthesized gold will become a reality and be cost-effective, whereas it is unlikely that artificially synthesized Bitcoin will ever be produced in laboratories. This comment is in response to a statement by a San Francisco-based startup Marathon Fusion, which claims to have successfully converted mercury into real gold and demonstrated an efficient alchemy process. Marathon Fusion has also developed a powerful plasma centrifuge that surpasses the records set during the forty-year Soviet era. Despite their ambitions for gold production attracting attention, their experimental claims have not proven that artificial gold can be produced cheaply or on an industrial scale. Eckel's argument touches on the core of Bitcoin's long-term investment appeal: predictable scarcity. Unlike gold, whose total supply can increase through mining discoveries and technological advancements, Bitcoin's maximum supply is approximately 21 million coins, with coin issuance following a predetermined schedule and mining rewards halving every four years.
