After the latest preview of "Grand Theft Auto 6" ( GTA 6 ) was released, there was a surge in traffic to Netflix and the gaming live streaming platform Twitch, indicating that this new game has already attracted a great deal of attention before its official release. Multiple institutions predict that this game, which is set to launch on November 19th, could become one of the strongest entertainment products in recent years.

Preview releases drive traffic up.

This longer game showcase was first released by Netflix, which is not a common practice. Netflix informed CNBC that some users encountered temporary access issues, but the platform quickly recovered. Analysts from Wells Fargo stated that there was also bandwidth pressure when the trailer was launched, yet the overall feedback from players was mostly positive.

The co-founder of analysis firm The Game Business, Christopher Dring, stated that he has hardly ever seen Netflix showcasing a single game in such a concentrated manner, which reflects that the appeal of GTA6 is at a completely separate level.

Pre-order amount has reached $260 million.

According to estimates by data agency Newzoo, the global pre-order amount for GTA has reached approximately $260 million, and sales in the first week of release could potentially reach $4.5 billion. This new product is released 13 years after its predecessor GTA, and the market generally expects it to have the opportunity to replicate the commercial success of that earlier title.

Dring also mentioned that although GTA 5 has been on the market for 13 years, it still consistently ranks among the top five bestsellers of the year. This also makes the market place more emphasis on the role of GTA 6 in driving business performance and industry demand.

Digital issuance becomes the main trend of the industry

Regarding whether the previous leaks would affect sales, analysts believe that judging from the market reaction after this preview, the leaks in question have not diminished the business prospects. Rockstar Games has previously described these leaks as "painful."

However, there are also disputes regarding the format of release. GTA 6 will only offer a digital download version, with no physical discs being released anymore, which has sparked different reactions among players. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated earlier this month that the disc format no longer conforms to consumer habits, and over 90% of the company's business is now distributed through digital channels.

The host market is waiting for a hit product to drive growth.

Circana Data shows that sales of physical game discs in the United States have dropped to a historic low, at only 85 million US dollars. Meanwhile, the console market continues to face pressure. Due to rising costs of storage and memory, console prices continue to increase.

Taking Xbox Series X as an example, the retail price of the standard version has risen to $800, which is higher than the $500 when it was launched in 2020. Circana data also shows that sales of host hardware in the United States dropped to $282 million in July, the lowest level since the pandemic. As a result, the market hopes that GTA in June will drive a recovery in host and gaming consumption.
