Strategy resumed buying Bitcoin after a two-month pause. The company disclosed on Monday that the latest purchase amounted to approximately $370 million, with an average price of around $80,300 per coin. After the announcement, the stock price of Strategy rose by nearly 3%.
Bitcoin rebound drives a recovery in positions held
This purchase occurred during a short-term rebound in Bitcoin prices. On Monday, the price of Bitcoin was around $78,800. On August 21st, Bitcoin rose by more than 23% in a single day, once again reaching $79,000 for the first time since May.
As a result, the value of the positions held by Strategy has once again exceeded the purchase cost. During the previous downward phase, the company's book value was under significant pressure, and the market value of its holdings was at one point below the holding cost.
Reduced holdings multiple times in the past few months
Strategy holds approximately 4% of the total Bitcoin supply. In the past, the company mainly relied on issuing additional shares and borrowing to continue increasing its holdings, but this model came under pressure when market conditions weakened.
In late June, when Bitcoin fell to around $58,500, Strategy began selling some of its Bitcoin to meet financial obligations. Throughout the summer, the company sold again three more times, totaling approximately $544 million.
Cash reserves remain a key focus.
In June, Strategy established a new financial buffer arrangement to set aside cash for dividend and interest payments, while retaining the option to repurchase shares or sell Bitcoin.
The company's recent focus is on replenishing its cash reserves to ensure that even if Bitcoin continues to be weak, it can still make regular payments to the investors of STRC.
