The London Stock Exchange and Kraken's parent company, Payward, are advancing a plan to tokenize British stocks. They aim to cover the 100 largest listed companies in the UK through the xStocks framework and to offer round-the-clock trading to qualified investors in over 110 countries and regions.
Covering the top 100 largest listed companies in the UK
This collaboration introduces traditional stocks into the online trading scenario, with the goal of expanding the international accessibility of British stocks. For overseas investors, these products can be traded outside of regular trading hours, and the trading method is also closer to the continuous trading model of the cryptocurrency market.
Token-to-share ratio of 1:1
According to the current information, the tokens issued under the xStocks framework will be supported 1:1 by the corresponding stocks. This means that each token corresponds to a share of underlying stock equity, with the focus on converting traditional securities exposures into more easily cross-border tradable digital products.
- Coverage: The 100 largest listed companies by market value in the UK
- Trading targets: Qualified investors from over 110 countries and regions
- Trading Hours: Supports 24-hour trading
The first batch of products will be launched within a few weeks.
The first batch of xStocks is expected to be launched in the coming weeks. The London Stock Exchange, on the other hand, plans to incorporate such products into its LSE 24 platform in 2027, but this arrangement still requires regulatory approval.
If the project progresses as planned, British stocks will become another batch of traditional financial assets to enter the tokenization track. For trading platforms, this also indicates that the connection between stocks, crypto assets, and on-chain infrastructure is continuing to deepen.
