HCLTech has launched a AI study targeting the global wealth management industry.

This study, titled “Hidden In Pl ( AI )n Sight”, is based on a sample of 1,066 individuals generated through modeling by AI and representing senior decision-makers in the wealth management industry across 17 global markets. HCLTech describes it as a groundbreaking synthetic research published by them.

Research shows that 84% of wealth management companies worldwide believe that their business models need to be fundamentally restructured in order to fully unleash the potential of AI; this indicates that the transformation of AI is not only about adopting technology, but also about reimagining how businesses operate, compete, and grow. The report also points out that although 98% of management teams in this industry are actively pursuing the AI agenda, only just over 7% are developing proxy AI capabilities.

The study identified three key blind spots that hinder wealth management companies from transforming their enthusiasm for AI into measurable business results:

  • Ambitious Blind Spots: Companies acknowledge the need for transformation, but still primarily use AI funds to improve efficiency.
  • Execution blind spot: A large amount of technical investment has not been accompanied by an investment in customers' own data and insights, which are the real foundations for creating a competitive advantage.
  • Strategic Blind Spot: Companies monitor the adoption of AI, but they do not measure its impact on growth, revenue, and customers.

HCLTech, the head of growth and also responsible for global financial services, Srinivasan Seshadri stated: "There is no issue with investment in this industry; rather, it's a matter of decision-making. Almost all wealth management companies are investing in AI. However, there are far fewer companies that can clearly articulate which projects they are funding, to what extent AI is truly integrated into their operational models, and whether they are measuring key outcomes such as new customer value, growth, and revenue models. Our research shows that although 84% of leaders wish to undergo fundamental reshaping, only 12% are measuring the new revenue that such reshaping should bring. This is precisely the blind spot that winning companies address first."

According to HCLTech, this research combines the scale, speed, and analytical capabilities of AI with profound professional expertise in the field. Industry practitioners, researchers, and experts from the field were involved throughout the process, questioning assumptions, enriching the background information, and rigorously verifying the conclusions to ensure that the results are not only innovative but also based on real industry experience.

HCLTech, the Global Marketing Director, stated: "This research represents a new paradigm for generating insights: AI brings us scale and speed, while human experience ensures that every discovery is credible and reliable. This demonstrates the possibilities that can be achieved when AI collaborates with human experience, and it is also the capability that we hope to further develop within our organization."

The report states that companies that will be able to establish a sustainable competitive advantage are those that combine AI with their most unique asset: customer-specific knowledge accumulated over decades. Executives believe that first-hand data and behavioral data have greater differentiating value than technical infrastructure, cloud platforms, or AI partnerships; at the same time, nearly 80% believe that future industry leaders will be those companies that are best at coordinating AI, human experience, and ecosystem partners. The Asia-Pacific region (89%) and North America (84%) have the highest levels of confidence, while Europe lags behind at 38.3%, indicating significant differences in readiness and transformation speed among different markets.

Editor's Note: Initiating a new research paradigm with AI

This report was completed in collaboration by HCLTech and Evidenza and is considered one of the most comprehensive synthetic research applications in the wealth management industry to date.

Its methodology reflects the approach advocated by HCLTech to clients: using human judgment at critical moments in conjunction with large-scale AI. Research has not replaced traditional experience, but rather enhances and expands its role through AI, with domain experts participating in profile design, research and development, and result validation.

HCLTech indicates that this achievement is not only a new approach to understanding complex industries but also a practical example of responsible use of AI. By combining analysis driven by AI with human experience, the research demonstrates how organizations can enhance their insight capabilities while maintaining trust, rigor, and transparency.

The report ultimately concludes that the companies capable of forming a sustainable competitive advantage are not necessarily those that deploy more AI, but rather those that can combine AI with their most unique assets: proprietary customer knowledge, human experience, and strong ecosystem partnerships.
