Microsoft's Nadella once again stated that the company is working to transform Copilot into a "new operating system for work," suitable for all models, all work scenarios, and all tasks. Meanwhile, IT revealed that the main program of Copilot desktop applications is very small in size; it is actually a renamed Microsoft Edge launcher, which operates in conjunction with components such as Chromium and WinUI.

IT reported on September 26 that after Microsoft released the Copilot "super app," the company's CEO Satya Nadella stated, "We are transforming Copilot into a brand-new operating system for work."

On October 1st, in a Microsoft official blog post announcing that Ryan Roslanski ( Ryan Roslansky ) would be leaving his position by the end of 2026, Nadella once again described Copilot as a "new operating system designed for work."

Nadella emphasized once again: "We are transforming Copilot into a brand-new operating system for work, one that is suitable for all models, all work scenarios, and all tasks."

The media, through technical analysis, pointed out that the main program of the Copilot desktop application, copilotapp.exe, is only 4.99MB in size; in reality, it is a renamed Microsoft Edge launcher.

IT's home attaches the relevant screenshots as follows:

Its installation directory contains a complete Edge build, with a size of about 520MB. It includes a 349.6MB msedge.dll browser core, as well as Chromium resource packages, V8, ICU, FFmpeg and other components.

At runtime, Copilot loads copilot.microsoft.com (personal account) or m365.cloud.microsoft / chat (work account), with Chromium renderer, GPU, and utility processes running in the background.

It also contains another host program named copilotapphost.exe, which is based on NET 10 and compiled with NativeAOT. This component handles system-level functions such as ".Hey Copilot" voice wake-up, voice editor, visual authentication, screen sharing, and the floating editor overlay layer. The main interface is still rendered by Chromium; the WinUI host is only activated when a microphone or screen capture is needed and shuts down when not in use.

Researchers are tracking a Chinese AI "proxy fleet"
A group of independent researchers claim to have discovered a batch of AI proxies active on the internet, which seem to be operating on Tencent's infrastructure and are conducting queries targeting Alibaba's mapping service, Gaode (Amap). The researchers noted that there appears to be no communication between these proxies, and they are more akin to a “fleet of proxies” rather than a “swarm”.
