U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bosworth criticized tech leaders who advocate for restrictions on AI by the government in The Axios Show, calling such "alarmist rhetoric without solutions" a lack of leadership. He also mentioned that after a meeting with AI executives last month, the White House facilitated voluntary self-regulation commitments, and OpenAI recently put on hold a new model due to internal testing.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has something to say about those who advocate for regulating tech leaders, and his wording is likely to remind one of broad beans and a nice glass of Chianti wine.

During his appearance on “The Axios Show” on Saturday, Bentente compared those who hoped the government would add fences to AI with a notorious movie character.

“What I mean is, it’s a bit like Hannibal Lecter: ‘Stop me from killing again,’” Basset said, “This kind of alarmist rhetoric without any solutions from some insiders in the AI circle – that’s not leadership.”

When mentioning the serial killer in "Silent Lamb," Benedict stated that those AI executives who hope to put safeguards in place for the technology that Washington is developing for them should slow down the development pace on their own without government intervention.

Bessent's remarks are in line with the White House's response to that wave of AI leaders who called on AI companies to organically slow down last month. Those leaders stated that they were concerned that this technology was getting out of control.

Some of them, such as Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, are calling for the U.S. government to intervene and regulate these companies.

U.S. President Donald Trump once convened AI executives for a meeting at the White House, which ultimately led to the formation of a voluntary self-restraint commitment.

Benson said that AI seems to be adopting the White House's recommendations. He mentioned that OpenAI recently decided to put off a new model because internal tests raised doubts about whether this AI would obey user instructions.

"These laboratories have always been very cooperative," he said.

Other insiders AI also warn that the competition for industry dominance is leading to a dangerous neglect of safety measures.

Anthropic, the person in charge of public policy, said last week on X: "It's impossible to ensure security while being in second place." Sarah Heck

OpenAI A senior executive in charge of security, David Robinson, publicly announced his resignation on Saturday, stating that he believed the company was moving too quickly and could not ensure that its models would not cause serious damage to society.

700,000 tons of copper piled up in American warehouses, yet prices remain high
In September, copper prices approached $6.90 per pound, but then fell back to around $6.70 due to the potential delay in U.S. tariff adjustments. CME indicates that tariff uncertainties have driven physical copper to be shipped to the United States, increasing domestic inventories and regional premiums; at the same time, AI infrastructure and energy transitions are also supporting copper demand.

1,400 layoffs at truck factories reveal which sectors the slowdown in U.S. employment is impacting
The article states that although the national employment data in the United States still appears relatively stable, with an unemployment rate of 4.2% and an increase of 9,000 jobs in manufacturing in September, these overall figures may conceal significant regional impacts of unemployment. The report points out that large-scale layoffs at a single factory can outweigh local job creations, and the modest growth in industries such as machinery, plastics, or healthcare in the national statistics may obscure the severe economic effects of the closure or layoffs of individual factories on communities.
