Zcash Hires Washington Lobbyists to Push for Crypto Policies
A newly registered lobbying effort reveals that its planned agenda in Washington includes the Digital Asset Markets Clearing Act ( CLARITY Act ) as well as two digital asset taxation proposals.
An initiative organization focused on Zcash has submitted registration documents for lobbying in Washington, further intensifying the efforts of this privacy-oriented cryptocurrency ecosystem to shape U.S. digital asset policies.
Pretty Good Policy for Zcash ( PGPZ ) submitted a lobbying registration document that took effect on October 1st, designating Executive Director Divij Pandya as their sole lobbyist. The registration document indicates that the "Digital Asset Market Clarification Act" and two digital asset taxation proposals are among the lobbying issues they are currently and expect to continue to promote.
PGPZ was launched in June this year, originating from Pretty Good Policy, for, and Crypto. The latter was initiated by Electric Coin Co in 2022. This initiative held a policy roundtable meeting in Washington and organized a congressional briefing on encryption technology in 2023.
The founder, ZODL Chief Policy and Regulation Officer, and Paul Brigner stated that their goal is to "ensure that Zcash has a serious, organized, and credible policy presence in Washington."
He said, "Policy makers are making decisions that will affect whether privacy-preserving digital cash can exist, whether it can be used legally, and whether it can serve the public interest. The significance of PGPZ is to ensure that Zcash is understood, represented, and defended in these discussions."
In August this year, Zcash Community Grants approved an allocation of $750,000 to fund the work of PGPZ in its first year.
