News from the IT community on October 6th: Technology media MacRumors reported yesterday (October 5th) that Apple released a firmware update, version 3.2.0, for the USB-C to MagSafe 3-meter cable. This is the first time a firmware update has been released for this cable since February 2023.

Attached is the introduction to this charging cable from Apple's official website: This 2-meter-long charging cable features a MagSafe magnetic connector, which helps guide the plug to attach to the charging port of a Mac laptop. When used in conjunction with a compatible USB-C power adapter, it allows for convenient charging of the laptop through a wall socket, taking full advantage of fast charging technology. The magnetic connection is strong enough to prevent accidental disconnection in most cases. However, if the cable gets tripped, the plug will detach easily to ensure that the laptop remains securely in place. While the battery is charging, the LED indicator light turns amber and turns green once the battery is fully charged. The cable is designed with a woven structure, making it durable.

The previous firmware version of this charging cable was 3.1.12, and this update is the first firmware update pushed by Apple since February 2023. Apple has not disclosed the specific details of this firmware update, nor has it released any related update notes.

The firmware update will be automatically installed once the charging cable is connected to Mac and plugged into a power adapter; users cannot manually trigger the update process through system settings or tools.
