The financing will support Antheia's strategy of manufacturing domestically in the United States, promoting the return of key pharmaceutical supply chains to the country.
Menlo Park, California, October 18, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- Advanced Biosynthesis Corporation Antheia announced today that it has received a conditional commitment from the Office of Strategic Capital (OSC) of the U.S. Department of War Office of Strategic Capital OSC, to provide the company with up to $80 million in long-term direct loans. Antheia stated that this conditional financing, combined with additional private capital, will support its strategy of manufacturing in the United States and enhance the company's ability to bring the production of key pharmaceutical ingredients back to the U.S., which are crucial for public health and national security.
Currently, about 90% of the United States' supply of key starting materials ( KSM ) and active pharmaceutical ingredients ( API ) relies on foreign sources. The original text states that this dependence on global supply chains makes the American public more vulnerable to drug shortages, which can be triggered by public health emergencies, natural disasters, geopolitical tensions, and supply chain disruptions.
Antheia, the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, Christina Smolke Ph.D., stated: "The United States' dependence on overseas suppliers of key pharmaceutical ingredients continues to pose risks to public health and national security. Advanced biomanufacturing provides a direct path for the United States to not only ensure the security of these supply chains but also to regain its global leadership in strategic technology areas. This conditional commitment from OSC marks an important milestone in advancing domestic technological development and addressing the most urgent national priorities."
Antheia indicates that its biosynthesis platform and domestic manufacturing capabilities in the United States have been repeatedly recognized as priority technologies for building a more resilient public health system. To date, the company has received substantial support, including $32 million in non-diluted federal funding, as well as equity financing from strategic investors with government backgrounds, to build resilience in the pharmaceutical supply chain and enhance national and economic security.
Antheia Chief Financial Officer Eric d' Esparbes stated: "By obtaining a long-term loan through OSC, we will have significant flexibility for Antheia during the next phase of our business growth. Expanding our manufacturing footprint in the United States is at the core of our business strategy. This financing will enable us to efficiently bring these critical supply chains back to our home country, while also fulfilling our commitments to customers, partners, and investors."
America 's Frontier Fund general partner, Antheia board member Jeff Karras stated: "The United States should not rely on overseas supply chains to obtain the ingredients for the most critical medications. Antheia is proving that technology born in the United States can be transformed into domestic manufacturing capabilities. Strategic long-term capital like this will help bring the production of vital medicines back to the U.S., while also building a more resilient industrial foundation needed by the country."
This conditional loan commitment stipulates that Antheia must still complete additional steps before the final delivery, including meeting financial, legal, technical, investment, due diligence, and other related requirements.
