Altitude and Matera will showcase new applications of the ANSI X9 .150 QR code payment standard at Money20 /20 USA. The event will take place in Las Vegas from October 18th to 21st. This proof of concept demonstrates how businesses can complete payments directly from invoices through structured, digitally signed payment requests: payment instructions are verified in Altitude Bill Pay, payments are made via USDC on Solana, and the payment status is updated back to the invoicing application.
This demonstration is part of a broader industry effort aimed at showcasing how X9.150 supports interoperability between different financial platforms and payment methods. The collaboration between Altitude and Matera brings this standard to life, connecting mature enterprise software with stablecoin payments.
Make payment information more reliable
As financial processes become increasingly automated, the accuracy and authenticity of payment instructions become more important. Enterprises typically receive invoices in the PDF format, extract payment details, and then re-enter this information into other systems. Each step carries the risk of errors, inconsistencies, or tampering.
X9.150 was released in July 2026 by the American financial industry standards-setting organization Accredited Standards Committee X9 ( X9 ). It is the first national standard in the United States for secure and interoperable QR code payments. This standard provides a common framework for participating applications to exchange structured payment requests and notifications; at the same time, digital signatures enable compatible applications to verify the source of the requests and detect whether the signature content has been altered. This framework covers a variety of payment methods and service providers, reducing the need for separate, proprietary solutions.
Matera is a bank and payment technology company, and it is also one of the more than 70 institutions involved in establishing the X9.150 standards. Altitude is a global corporate account built on stablecoin infrastructure, and it is bringing this technology to enterprises around the world through its billing payment process. The two companies are promoting a new standard of trust in corporate payments by integrating verification mechanisms into the financial information flow.
Matera, Co-Founder and CEO of North America, Carlos Netto stated: "When people hear 'payment QR code', they think of scanning with their phones in front of the checkout counter. But here, no one scans anything – invoices arrive in file format, and the accounts payable system reads them. Invoices and one-time bills account for the majority of actual payments made by businesses and households, and these payments have long relied on manual processing. This is precisely the problem that this standard aims to solve."
From invoice to verified payment
At Money20 /20, two companies will showcase the complete “from invoice to payment” process in their corporate billing payments.
The process begins when the payer uploads an invoice containing the X9.150 QR code to Altitude Bill Pay. Altitude reads the QR code to obtain the digitally signed payment request from the invoicing application and verifies its origin and integrity. Subsequently, the invoice and the payee's information are automatically filled in for the payer to review and approve. Once authorized, the payment is completed through Solana using USDC. After that, a notification is sent back to the invoicing application to update the invoice status to "paid".
This demonstration integrates three capabilities into the same workflow: standardized payment information, pre-authorization verification, and settlement through stablecoin infrastructure.
Verifying the signature of a payment request does not imply that the underlying invoice is legal or that payment should be made. Enterprises are still responsible for reviewing and authorizing the payment themselves.
Moving towards more interoperable corporate payments
This demonstration shows how shared standards can connect applications in different stages of financial transactions, from invoice creation to payment execution, and then to status feedback. By making payment information structured and verifiable, X9.150 can reduce manual entry, improve consistency between systems, and provide enterprises with greater assurance regarding the instructions they receive.
As enterprises further automate their financial tasks, the reliability of such information becomes increasingly important. Stronger verification mechanisms can provide a more solid foundation for the systems and also enable manual audits to obtain clearer information, while allowing enterprises to retain control over payment authorizations.
This workflow is currently being presented as a proof of concept, and whether it will be rolled out more widely remains to be determined.
About Altitude
Altitude is a global corporate account designed for enterprises that operate beyond the boundaries of traditional banks. It is built on stablecoin infrastructure and integrates accounts, payments, corporate cards, bill payments, invoicing, and financial operations into one system, allowing enterprises to transfer and manage funds across borders on a single platform. About Matera
Matera provides real-time banking capabilities for banks that are still running on traditional core systems, without the need to replace those systems. Banks can authorize transactions and display real-time balances 24/7/365, without being affected even if the core systems go offline due to batch processing. It also allows for the simultaneous offering of digital assets alongside fiat currency accounts, enabling customers to buy, sell, send, and receive digital assets directly within the bank, without having to transfer to exchanges. Major blockchains have already been integrated. For CIO, this means that real-time capabilities and digital asset functions can be quickly introduced to businesses with lower investment and without the risk of replacing core systems.
