Fulcrum collaborates with Slalom to assist power, gas, and water supply utilities in prioritizing the advancement and fully realizing the potential of their AI investments.

San Francisco, October 21 (Reuters) / PRNewswire / -- Field Operations Management ( FOM ) platform for utilities and their service providers Fulcrum announced today that it is collaborating with the “people-oriented” business and technology company Slalom. The two parties will jointly develop and deliver AI transformation solutions for field operations and business planning, which require high-quality field data to support analysis, process automation, and digital transformation.

Fulcrum CEO Jim Grady stated: "Public utility leaders are required to invest in AI and prove that it brings returns, and in on-site operations, the returns occur right there. Slalom helps utilities determine where AI can have the greatest impact and measure the results it brings. Fulcrum has replaced many narrow-range on-site applications and paper-based records with a unified platform, allowing AI to face the entire task, rather than just a small part of it."

When operational data is still scattered across mobile applications for specific purposes, spreadsheets, and paper forms, AI investments cannot improve the business outcomes of utilities. From routine inspections to storm recovery, unreliable frontline data undermines enterprise-level AI projects, and traditional office tools are also unable to address the practical issues of on-site work.

Fulcrum Replaces scattered on-site tools with a unified platform for executing, recording, and closing tasks. Slalom provides strategies, tools, and services to help utilities accelerate the transformation of AI, redesign processes, and achieve scale adoption. Its AI Value Platform helps customers prioritize where to deploy, quantify value before investment, and measure the achieved results. Fulcrum and Slalom apply AI in three areas.

AI for on-site operations. Fulcrum places AI at the location where on-site work takes place: Audio FastFill can convert the observational content orally provided by frontline personnel into structured form entries, achieving hands-free operation. Fulcrum Insights improves decision-making at the office end by answering natural language questions based on complete on-site records. The team can also leverage AI to build tools on Fulcrum; by simply describing the required workflow, they can obtain a functional tool that inherits the security model, permissions of Fulcrum, as well as GIS and offline synchronization features. Slalom helps enterprises identify where these AI capabilities can have a practical impact and integrates them into both on-site and office workflows. By allowing on-site teams to use these tools autonomously within a controlled system, Fulcrum enhances flexibility without encouraging the emergence of shadow IT.

The data foundation of enterprise AI. Fulcrum verifies each record during data collection and associates it with location, time, and personnel, providing high-quality, defensible data for the enterprise AI that can be put into use immediately. The team can track the installation locations of materials to support warranty work, monitor the usage rate of inventory, as well as the locations where losses and damages occur, and compare these patterns across different projects. Slalom helps customers connect this credible field data with the company's priorities, enabling teams to move from better records to useful analysis and AI. As records continue to accumulate and form a reliable historical record, the same data can also support periodic anomaly detection across projects, and can drive predictive models, providing guidance for asset maintenance and vegetation management to reduce the risk of wildfires.

Quantify the returns of AI. A 2026 global survey by Slalom reveals that 91% of organizations plan to increase their AI investments in 2026, yet only 39% track the return on those investments. AI Value Platform helps utilities evaluate and prioritize AI use cases based on business value and impact. As part of this collaboration, the platform can quantify benefits such as justifiable records and data available for decision-making, identify high-impact use cases, and track the difference between actual value and predictions after implementation. Its role is to substantiate business cases, not merely to make promises about them.

Slalom Global Head of Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Stafford, stated: "As utilities respond to the increasing demand for energy and prepare for more frequent extreme weather events and emergencies, they are increasingly investing in AI. Slalom brings industry perspective and transformation experience, helping utilities to convert reliable field data into operations driven by AI and integrate it with their existing enterprise systems. Together with Fulcrum, we help utilities provide justifiable information to frontline teams and management, enabling them to make confident decisions and complete critical tasks safely and reliably."
