According to an informed source, Meta no longer uses fruits to name its AI models.
The individual added that this is, to a large extent, a branding decision, as the fruit-based code name does not quite fit in with Meta's grand ambitions in the AI domain.
Meta previously named its language model and image model as “Avocado” and “Mango” respectively.
Meta refuses to comment.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and AI head Alexandr Wang joked last month on the podcast Cheeky Pint that they had run out of names for fruits that could be used for AI.

Zuckerberg said, "We've run out of names for our fruits, so we'll have to adopt a new naming convention."
Wang said, "I think the only fruit that is technically larger is the durian, but you wouldn't want to use the name 'durian' for it."
Meta is not the only technology company that uses items available in grocery stores to name its AI products.
According to The Information, OpenAI internally named a model “Garlic” in 2025. Google also released its “Nano Banana” image generator in 2025.
And recently, as the AI model has become more powerful, it has become a trend to give them more awe-inspiring names, such as Mythos for Anthropic or Astra for OpenAI.
