According to CoinMeta, as reported by Axios, executives from OpenAI, Anthropic, and other AI companies are secretly preparing to address potential public backlash resulting from disasters. The executives anticipate that large-scale incidents, most likely cyberattacks, could lead to disruptions in financial services, internet connectivity, and even power and water supplies. A spokesperson for OpenAI stated that OpenAI is conducting emergency drills to discuss and respond to various potential scenarios. Although the company executives are aware that there is currently no chance of regulatory approval, they still hope to shape legislation and policies after the first disaster event. Recent attacks on Korean financial institutions have demonstrated the destructive power of a single hacker; a hacker from China used AI tools to steal data from tens of thousands of bank customers. CrowdStrike noted that the combination of AI tools with traditional attack capabilities highlights the continuous evolution of adversaries' tactics. Many industry insiders believe that major incidents are likely to occur within the next six to twelve months.
