Solana Core Development Team Announces Alpenglow Consensus Upgrade Plan
2026-10-13 23:32:05
According to CoinMeta, the core development team of Solana announced that the Alpenglow consensus upgrade plan will be activated on the mainnet at around 14:50 on October 21st (22:50 Beijing time). This upgrade will replace the existing TowerBFT consensus mechanism with the Votor one, with the goal of reducing the final transaction confirmation time from about 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds. After the upgrade, validators will directly exchange voting information, and votes will no longer be recorded as on-chain transactions, which may lead to a noticeable decrease in the number of transactions that include validators' votes. The Alpenglow consensus has previously been tested on the testnet and developmentnet on September 24th and 25th, respectively. This mainnet upgrade is still within the planned schedule, and 150 milliseconds is the expected performance target; it is not yet the actual operating result on the mainnet.
