Crypto Long & Short: Why Gold and Bitcoin Should Be in the Same Investment Portfolio
2026-10-14 23:08:04
CoinMeta data: Portfolios of gold and Bitcoin have attracted the attention of investors. The current trading price of gold is near $4,200 per ounce, while Bitcoin is hovering around $84,000. Although the value of gold as a reserve asset has been proven over a period of more than 5,000 years, Bitcoin has only a history of 17 years and lacks sufficient empirical data. What they have in common is that neither can be expanded by central banks or fiscal policies; therefore, their scarcity becomes particularly important against the backdrop of rampant debt. The U.S. federal debt has exceeded $39 trillion, and the annual expenditure solely for repaying existing debt amounts to $1 trillion. Investors buy gold or Bitcoin often out of concern about asset devaluation, rather than as a buffer against market fluctuations. Although gold has advantages in terms of infrastructure, law, and reserve status, Bitcoin is also gradually establishing its own related infrastructure.
