FED interest rate hike expectations rise, chip stocks suffer consecutive heavy losses

According to CoinMeta, on Thursday, the wave of selling in global technology hardware stocks continued. Affected by expectations of a Fed interest rate hike and the financing risks associated with AI, stock prices of Asian chip manufacturers fell along with those of U.S. stocks. South Korean company Samsung Electronics dropped by more than 7%, and SK Hynix fell by over 8%, dragging down South Korea's KOSPI index by more than 6% at one point. The Nikkei 225 index fell by over 3% during the session, with Tokyo Electron and Screen Holdings experiencing declines of 3%. Concerns about rising interest rates, high valuations, and the massive funds required to build AI infrastructure continued to increase, putting pressure on investor confidence. Despite strong financial reports from Samsung and ASML, this did not manage to soothe investors. Meanwhile, the stock price of AI cloud infrastructure company CoreWeave plummeted, and its bond prices dropped to levels that usually indicate a company is in financial trouble, prompting investors to once again question the sustainability of large-scale AI infrastructure spending. Data released on Wednesday showed that U.S. CPI growth in September reached a five-month high, fueling market expectations of a Fed interest rate hike.
