According to CoinMeta, as reported by BBC, multiple official X accounts under the Irish National Police (An Garda S í och á na) are suspected of having been hacked and used for promoting cryptocurrencies. The affected accounts include the official traffic safety account with about 600,000 followers, Gardatraffic, as well as the comprehensive government affairs account with nearly 300,000 followers, Gardainfo. The attack occurred on Wednesday evening; hackers removed the official police emblem from the accounts, altered the account information to show Amsterdam, Netherlands, and posted multiple tweets intensively promoting crypto assets (such as phishing content that induced users to claim XRP quotas). Some of the illegal tweets have been marked and warned by the platform. The Irish police have noted this security incident and will issue an official investigation statement later on.
