Wall Street no longer waits for Congress to enact crypto regulations
2026-10-15 23:01:41
According to CoinMeta, while Congress has failed to advance crypto regulations, financial companies are taking it upon themselves to establish compliance and infrastructure. With Congress's inability to pass the Clear Act on September 15th, the United States once again lacks a comprehensive federal framework for digital assets, prompting regulatory agencies to begin filling in some of the gaps. Two days later, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued an "innovation exemption" that allows certain venues to trade tokenized U.S. listed stocks. Although this exemption is not a law, it can be narrowed or revoked just as easily as it was granted. This presents a practical problem for financial companies: how to proceed during this waiting period? For advisors, the answer is more important than who wins or loses in Washington.
