U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bosworth warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to be "cautious" when publicly discussing U.S. support for Ukraine.
The internet provided by the United States, denoted as Starlink, has recently experienced slower speeds in Ukraine, which has affected the country's ability to respond to Russian attacks in this war-torn nation.
Zelensky previously stated in the program NBC " Meet the Press " that he believes the US government is responsible for this slowdown, and claimed that Ukraine was "cut off" from US intelligence for a period of time.
Bessent reminded Zelensky to be cautious regarding these claims.
"Both President Trump and Secretary of State Rubio have clearly stated that no one in the Trump administration has done such a thing. I think it is very reckless of President Zelenskyy to make such accusations," Bessent said in the program "Meet the Press".
"President Zelensky should be very cautious not to make such unsubstantiated statements," he added.
The high-speed satellite internet provided by Starlink, owned by Elon Musk's SpaceX, is of vital importance for Ukraine's defense. Musk himself posted on X last week, stating that the U.S. government and President Trump are "ultimately" responsible for any slowdown in the military version of Starlink – that is, Starshield.
Musk wrote: "The Starshield system is owned and controlled by the U.S. government. Any speed or usage restrictions are determined by the U.S. military, and ultimately by the President."
Trump denies responsibility for this slowdown.
“Well, I don’t know if it’s anyone in particular, because it wasn’t me, and I also don’t think it was Elon,” the president said last week, “As far as I’m aware, the situation is the same as it always has been.”
