Chicago, October 19 (Reuters) / PRNewswire / -- Cboe Global Markets, Inc. (Cboe: CBOE) Today, it was announced that its Cboe Options Exchange (C1) has begun to offer trading for options on certain multi-listed stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETF) during extended pre-market and post-market hours. C1 is currently the only options exchange in the United States to provide trading hours for pre-market and post-market index options, and now it has extended these trading hours to include individual U.S. stocks and ETF options as well.
Trading on these individual stocks and ETF options is now available during the pre-market session from 7:30 AM to 9:25 AM and the post-market session from 4:00 PM to 4:15 PM, Monday through Friday, Eastern Time. This covers some of the most actively traded and liquid assets, including the “Magnificent 10” stock, as well as other widely followed U.S. stocks and major ETF. The complete list of assets includes: AAPL, AMD, AMZN, AVGO, BABA, BAC, F, GLD, GOOG, GOOGL, HOOD, INTC, IWM, META, MRVL, MSFT, MU, NFLX, NOK, NVDA, ORCL, PFE, PLTR, QQQ, SNDK, SPY, TSLA, TSM, XLF.
As of September, the trading volume of options on these underlying assets accounted for approximately 53% of the average daily trading volume of listed options in the United States in 2026.
Cboe Global Derivatives Head Rob Hocking stated: "Leveraging our 53 years of innovation history and experience in extending trading hours for flagship index options, Cboe has played a leading role in this important initiative today. We have extensively sought input from retail and institutional participants, including those from both the United States and non-U.S. brokerage partners, whose insights were crucial to the successful launch. The transition to 24-hour, five-day-a-week trading across asset classes is accelerating, which is particularly evident in the demand for non-traditional trading hours for Cboe index options, especially before the opening of the U.S. market when economic data and company announcements are typically released. Now, with the extension of trading hours for individual stocks and ETF options, global investors will be able to manage their positions and risks more flexibly on many of the assets that drive today's markets."
Multiple global brokers are providing or planning to provide trading access during these time periods.
Fidelity Investments, Senior Vice President of Brokerage Business, stated: "Options have long been an important tool for Fidelity investors to manage risk and seize market opportunities. The extension of trading hours Cboe represents an important evolution in the options market, giving investors greater flexibility and choices in how and when to use these strategies."
Interactive Brokers CEO Milan Galik stated: "The market operates 24/7, but the trading hours for U.S. stock options have always been limited. We welcome Cboe to narrow this gap, allowing global investors to have greater flexibility to trade and manage risks outside of regular U.S. trading hours."
Moomoo US CEO Neil McDonald stated: "We are proud to collaborate with Cboe to offer extended trading hours for certain stock options from day one. The release of financial reports and economic developments do not follow the market's trading schedule. This extension allows retail investors to manage their positions more flexibly before and after market openings, as well as to respond to news that may affect the market."
Robinhood, Vice President of Product Management, Abhishek Fatehpuria said: "Many of our customers are early risers who wish to stay informed about the news and look for market signals before the market opens. With Cboe's new extended trading hours options, we enable our customers to trade according to their own schedules, whether before or after market opening. This is just another example of our commitment to making Robinhood the best platform for active traders."
Tiger Brokers Singapore CEO Ian Leong stated: "For Singaporean investors, the pre-market session in the United States coincides with our evening hours, and many news events that affect U.S. stocks are also released during that time. Our clients have long expressed a desire to manage their positions more flexibly around these times, and our collaboration with Cboe allows us to meet this need. Expanding access to certain U.S. stock options is another step in our ongoing innovation to provide clients with more trading options, and it is also accompanied by educational and risk control measures required by the exchanges outside of regular trading hours."
TradeStation Group, Inc. President and CEO John Bartleman stated: "We are extending the option trading hours of Cboe to give traders more flexibility to respond when market events occur. We believe that traders should have the opportunity to enter the market whenever such opportunities arise, which is also why TradeStation Securities offers extended trading hours for options from the very beginning. Customers can use the same integrated tools, educational resources, and support that they rely on throughout their daily trading activities before market opening and after market closing to execute their strategies on certain options."
Tradier Chief Product Officer Peter Laptewicz stated: "The market won't wait for the opening bell, and neither should our customers. The GTH stock options session of Cboe will enable Tradier customers to respond in real-time to market movements, without having to wait until the regular trading hours. We are delighted to support Cboe in expanding access and opportunities for active traders."
Cboe currently provides nearly 24/7 trading for several of its own index options during its global trading hours (GTH, from 8:15 PM Eastern Time to 9:25 AM the following day), as well as during Curb Trading Hours (from 4:15 PM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time). In September 2026, GTH set records for monthly and quarterly average daily trading volume.
The US stock business of Cboe currently provides trading from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, on its two exchanges. It plans to launch 24/7 trading on Cboe BZX Exchange starting December 6th, provided that the industry is ready. Cboe will not open corresponding option categories until the underlying securities are listed, and typically pauses such option categories when the related underlying securities are suspended from trading.
