Strategy bought again during the Bitcoin rebound.
The digital asset treasury company disclosed on Monday that it had increased its holdings of Bitcoin by more than $22 million last week, at a time when the price was fluctuating between around $80,000 and $84,000.
The latest purchase was of Strategy, adding 267 bitcoins to its total holdings, which now amount to approximately $64 billion. The company also spent about $193 million to repurchase shares of STRC. STRC is a type of preferred stock that pays regular dividends to investors. The board of directors also approved an additional $1 billion for the repurchase of preferred stocks, bringing the total repurchase authorization to $3 billion.
It has only been a week since the latest purchase of Bitcoin for Strategy for $21 million. Since August, the company has purchased Bitcoin six times, continuing its aggressive buying trend.
During this purchase, the price of Bitcoin fluctuated sharply, almost erasing its gains from the past two months. In August, this cryptocurrency ended a streak of declines and rose from around $63,000 to $77,000. By the end of September, Bitcoin surpassed $80,000 for the first time since May and reached a high of around $86,000.
However, in the past week, a series of tense situations have driven fluctuations in the price of Bitcoin. On Friday, an attack on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz sparked concerns about supply disruptions, causing oil prices to soar and exacerbating inflation worries. On Monday, after President Trump exempted certain sanctions and tariffs related to Russia, allowing more fuel to potentially flow into global markets, oil prices fell back.
Tech stocks also saw selling pressure, and investors began to question whether the artificial intelligence boom can continue. The Nasdaq index fell more than 2% on Friday, but had recovered most of that loss by Monday morning.
However, the latest purchases by Strategy indicate that, despite market fluctuations, the company continues to increase its holdings, which is in line with the long-term stance of the executive chairman, Michael Saylor, who has preferred to hold Bitcoin. He stated last October: "You will not sell your Bitcoin."
However, Strategy deviated from this stance briefly earlier this year, selling Bitcoin four times during the bear market; at that time, the price of Bitcoin fell to $58,000 in June.
