IT News on September 28th: eufy, a subsidiary of Anker, announced the launch of the Video Doorbell S4 smart doorbell in overseas markets. The doorbell is priced at $299.99 (Note from IT: The current exchange rate is approximately 2,019 RMB). Delivery is expected to be available by the end of October 2026.
eufy calls S4 "the world's first smart doorbell that supports VR viewing function." In VR mode, users can move their phones or wear headsets to view panoramic images captured by the doorbell from different angles. When a visitor presses the doorbell, a notification pops up on the phone similar to a phone call. After the user answers, they can enter full-screen VR mode, which also supports two-way voice calls.
In terms of specifications, the Video Doorbell S4 has a resolution of 3072×3072 (approximately 9 million pixels) and can record videos up to 3K at 24 FPS. The lens has a 180-degree field of view in both horizontal and vertical directions, allowing it to cover the range from the ground to the ceiling and from one wall to the other, thus capturing the visitor's entire body as completely as possible. The device also supports up to 8x zoom and is equipped with dual spotlights, enabling color night vision.
In addition, S4 is also equipped with eufy and OmniTrack AI tracking systems. It can automatically lock in the characters within the frame and crop the panoramic image to keep them always in the center of the screen, thus providing a more compact view of the event.
In terms of motion detection, S4 uses both radar and dual PIR human infrared sensors. The radar is responsible for detecting at longer distances, while the two PIR sensors cover a wider area near the entrance. The maximum detection range reaches up to 8 meters. The device supports the detection of people, movement, packages, and faces, and is also equipped with a welcome light that turns on when someone approaches, emitting warm-colored light.
In terms of compatibility, S4 supports Amazon Alexa, Google Google Home, and Apple Home HomeKit. For the Apple Home feature, an additional purchase of the HomeBase S380 gateway is required. Additionally, VR for viewing and OmniTrack AI for tracking functions still need to be used through the official eufy app.
