IT News on September 28th: Microsoft recently announced a major reorganization of its Xbox game studio. As more former employees disclose related information on social media, the impact of this reorganization seems to be broader than what Microsoft initially announced. The development team behind World's Edge has also been affected.

According to PC Gamer, multiple current and former developers from World's Edge have recently confirmed that they were laid off on social media platforms. One developer stated on a ResetEra forum that "slightly less than half" of the employees at World's Edge were laid off. Adam Isgreen, who once served as one of the heads of that studio, also posted on LinkedIn indicating that his 16-year career has come to an end, and mentioned that the team had already made plans for their next steps.
Andrew Martz, who previously served as a senior software engineer at World's Edge, further revealed the impact of this reorganization on the subsequent development of the Age of Empires series. He stated that he was laid off by Microsoft last May and then rejoined World's Edge under Xbox in February this year, but now he has lost his job again.
According to Martz, World's Edge has been reclassified under Activision this time. During this process, the next project that the studio was working on was canceled, and a large number of employees were laid off, including him.
It is not yet clear what the project that was canceled was, nor can it be confirmed whether it belonged to a new title in the Age of Empires series. World and Edge were previously mainly responsible for the management and development of the Age of Empires series and collaborated with other studios to release works such as Age of Empires 4.
It is worth noting that previously, when Microsoft announced the business adjustments related to Xbox, they stated that the company had only completed about three-quarters of the planned layoffs for Xbox. As the remaining reorganization work continues to progress, there may be more news in the future regarding the cancellation of additional gaming projects and adjustments to development teams.
