Netflix, the person in charge of the film business, Dan Lin, has resigned. This is another executive to be replaced following the company's largest layoff since 2022.
Lin was appointed as the head of the film department in 2024, with the task of bringing stronger cost discipline and more diversified content to Netflix's film business. Prior to this, during the tenure of his predecessor Scott Stuber, Netflix's film business focused more on large-scale productions. Lin reduced the high upfront payments to actors, cut staff, and reorganized the department. The film projects he was in charge of included the Oscar-winning work KPop Demon Hunters.《 Happy Gilmore 2》And "Frankenstein".
The departure of Lin is another major personnel shakeup for Netflix recently. In the past few days, Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria also left her position, to be replaced by a senior Hollywood professional named Peter Rice; Rice has previously held executive roles at Disney and Fox.
Netflix stated in a declaration confirming the resignation of Lin that Rice will be responsible for the film business until a new person in charge is appointed.
Last week, Netflix laid off 1,000 employees, which accounts for about 6% of its total global workforce. This is the largest layoff in the history of the streaming company since 2022, when the company experienced its first loss of subscription users in over a decade.
This streaming media giant has been hampered by a slowdown in user engagement growth and a stock price decline of over 40% in the past year. Faced with the rise of free, ad-supported streaming services led by YouTube, as well as the popularity of social videos, Netflix is also under competitive pressure. In recent months, Netflix has begun to turn to podcasters and creators to enrich its content library.
Netflix is scheduled to release its third-quarter financial report after the market closes on Tuesday.
