Sources familiar with the matter say Nexus Data Centers is in advanced talks for a $15 billion loan to build a large AI infrastructure campus in Texas for Anthropic. Morgan Stanley is the lead bank for the financing, while Google will provide support for Anthropic with its investment-grade credit.

The project will be located in Hubbard, Texas.

The funds are intended for the development of a data center campus in Hubbard, Texas. The report, citing sources familiar with the matter, stated that discussions are still confidential, and therefore details of the deal have not yet been released.

If the financing is secured, this will be another large-scale infrastructure arrangement to expand Anthropic's computing power, reflecting that large AI model companies are continuously securing power, data center, and chip-related resources.

Anthropic accelerates the expansion of computing power

Anthropic has continued to sign agreements with multiple infrastructure partners this year to enhance its computing capabilities. Earlier this month, the company reached an agreement with AMD, in May it partnered with SpaceX (owned by Elon Musk), and in April it also reached agreements with Google and Broadcom.

These actions demonstrate that leading AI companies are accelerating the construction of the underlying infrastructure needed for training and inference through multi-party collaborations, rather than relying solely on a single cloud service provider.

Google continues to increase its support

In April of this year, Google also agreed to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic, continuing their long-standing partnership. In 2023, Google initially invested $300 million in the AI company, acquiring approximately a 10% stake, and then added another $2 billion a few months later.

As of now, both Anthropic and Nexus Data Centers have declined to comment. Google did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and Morgan Stanley also declined to comment.

  • The financing amount is reportedly $15 billion.
  • The project is located in Hubbard, Texas.
  • Google will provide investment-grade credit support.
